Disney cruise ship changes to Western Caribbean itinerary
Disney Cruise Line has informed guests who have booked on board this weekend’s sailing of the Disney Fantasy that their itinerary has been changed, removing one port altogether, adding two more, and rearranging the order of ports and days at sea. This last-minute change is similar to changes made by other cruise lines as the routes are adapted to meet changing port requirements.
January 15 Adjusted route
Disney Fantasy was scheduled to depart Port Canaveral for a 7-night trip to the Eastern Caribbean this Saturday, calling at St. Maarten, San Juan and Castaway Cay.
This sailing has now been revised to a Western Caribbean route, with St. Maarten and San Juan removed as scheduled ports of call. Instead, the ship will visit Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Nassau. This adds an extra day in port to the cruise, removing one of the days at sea.
The port of call at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, remains unchanged for Friday, January 21, 2022. Cruise duration is also unaffected.
Disney Cruise Line notified guests of the revisions in an email sent Jan. 13, just two days before boarding. The email explains:
“Over the past few weeks, we have been in regular communication with the planned stopovers for your trip. Given the continued uncertainty regarding the requirements and protocols for visiting some of these destinations, we have made the decision to modify your itinerary.
No explanation is given of the requirements or protocols in which the ports caused this drastic change in itinerary, but San Juan and St. Maarten have either refused several cruise ships or asked several cruise lines to remove the route calls over the past few weeks. Disney Fantasy himself was refused in Saint-Thomas just two weeks ago.
Port Adventures will be refunded and cancellation fees waived
Guests who previously booked shore tours in St. Maarten and San Juan will automatically have these fees removed from their cabin accounts, while Castaway Cay tours have not changed.

Since sailing is only 48 hours away, guests will not be able to pre-book tours for Cozumel, Costa Maya, or Nassau. Instead, these port adventures can be booked onboard the ship through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.
The email goes on to explain that if customers no longer wish to sail with this revised itinerary, they can change their cruise date or cancel altogether by contacting their travel agent on Friday, January 14. These changes can be made. “without any cancellation fees imposed by Disney.”
Customers should note, however, that third-party change or cancellation fees, such as airlines, hotels, or travel insurance, are non-refundable, as they are not affiliated with Disney Cruise Line.
All refunds from Disney Cruise Line, whether for shore visits or for the entire cruise, in the event of cancellation, will be returned to the original form of payment.
Disney Fantasy Cruises
The Dream class Disney Fantasy was the second of Disney Cruise Line’s small but amazing fleet to resume sailing when it resumed operations on September 11, 2021. The ship currently offers 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries departing from Port Canaveral, and both itineraries include a stopover at Castaway Cay.
The replacement Western Caribbean sailing for the January 15, 2022 cruise is not the same as other Western Caribbean itineraries for Disney Fantasy, which would include stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Jamaica.
