Review – Rixos Bab Al Bahr, Ras al Khaimah: A sumptuous oasis of bespoke luxury and incredible experiences

Head half out, the faint crackle of fish feeding below provides the soundtrack of daydreaming as I hang in the water and survey the scene. Before me is a study in blue. The cerulean of the shallows gives way to turquoise and then darker azure as the sea stretches to the horizon. The perfect celestial sky stretches out from this intersection, punctuated only by the silver crescent moon, its lingering presence in daylight adding an ethereal quality to the portrait. I’m at Rixos Bab Al Bahr, where spectacular theatrics, gorgeous costumes and an incredible atmospheric backdrop have me transfixed to say the least. After spending years in the Middle East, this was the first time a hotel impressed me with its excellent live entertainment options. Two days at the Rixos Bab Al Bahr and its charm had already bewitched me.

This all-inclusive beach resort is located on a private beach in the northernmost emirate of the United Arab Emirates and has excellent family facilities, as well as adult-only areas. What’s amazing is that everyone has a great time, thanks to the multiple pools, tons of free activities, and friendly service.

First impression
The resort is located on a group of man-made islands in Ras Al Khaimah, known as RAK, a 10-minute drive from Al Hamra Golf Club and approximately 72 km from Dubai Airport. At first glance, I already liked the three magnificent buildings in the shape of a pyramid, with waterways and a souk surrounding a pretty entertainment square. Add to that traditional wind tower architecture and the gorgeous Ottoman-inspired spa, inviting main pool, and beach, and you’ve got a winner.

There are also various all-inclusive activities such as beach volleyball, soccer, basketball, table tennis, tennis, fitness classes, and water sports like parasailing, banana boating, and kayaking.

Most of the resort’s 650 rooms and suites have ocean views, with an adults-only pyramid.

Deluxe Rooms are understated and elegant, with comfortable king-size beds, turquoise, taupe, and tan tones, and marble bathrooms with large rainfall showers. Upon arrival I was greeted with delicious desserts and a lovely surprise bottle of grapes.

The greedy factor
There are eight restaurants and six bars to choose from. Seven Heights is an all-day dining restaurant that offers an extensive selection of international dishes. Breakfast is an abundant buffet of cereals, yogurts, fruits, breads and pastries, as well as eggs cooked to order. From Italian to Asian, there’s a dining option for every culinary mood with an array of restaurants to choose from. L’Olivo’s Italian cuisine is excellent and deserves to be savored. Except that,
my big favorite was the Turkish specialty restaurant – Lalezar, where the melting skewers and fragrant rice dishes as well as the breakfast options are just amazing! The gastronomic strength of the property shines through in every bite.

The signature Rixos hammam is an absolute must

The swishing and sprawling Avitane Spa is one of the best I’ve tried! Post a Turkish hammam and rejuvenating massage; I feel like my soul is cleansed too. The techniques used by the therapists are quite unique and uplifting, something I observed as they kneaded my muscles into mush.

The couples spa suite is so imperial, and the super efficient and wonderful therapists only add to the fabulousness of the spa.

Expect nightly entertainment from the 50-person entertainment team, with strict-style dance performances, live music, karaoke, and quizzes. The trendy pool parties are so well organized that you won’t stop smiling alongside the great food and the incredible all-inclusive option; make this one a hospitality wonder for sure!
