Serenity Resort in St Lucia is the ultimate romantic oasis in the Caribbean – review

Emilie Horan

No more than ten minutes after unpacking my suitcase from St. Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport, I find myself lying by the pool, sipping a fresh coconut under the shade of a palm tree.

As I learned during my stay at Serenity at Coconut Bay ResortIts incredibly convenient location is just one of the things that make this adults-only all-inclusive suite resort a little slice of heaven nestled on St. Lucia’s glorious south coast.

Luxury cabanas on the beach

A warm welcome from the resort team; iced cocktail in hand… my first visit to the Caribbean certainly started off well. Admittedly, it’s hard not to fall in love with the sheer beauty of this palm-adorned oasis, where each of the 36 rooms is a unique suite, offering plenty of indoor and outdoor space and an A-grade level of privacy. -list.

Settling into mine, with its four-poster king bed, waist-high tub, plunge pool, hammock and very well-stocked outdoor bar – there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to set foot outside of my little sanctuary for the rest of the trip. And the thing is, you really don’t have to.

Serenity — a cool, quiet, and grown-up enclave of the family-friendly Coconut Bay Resort — puts luxury, privacy, and romance at the top of its agenda, so it’s no surprise it’s a mecca for honeymooners, marriage couples and long-term partners at the same time. But if you can tear yourself away from your own personal paradise, there’s a lot to explore, as I’ve discovered…

Whatever you want to do with your vacation, your personal butler can organize it for you. Now, throw away all the images of bow ties, white gloves and stiff upper lips – Serenity aren’t your old-fashioned Downton Abbey butlers.

My butler Kimberley was warm, engaging, funny and full of ideas to help me get the most out of the island during my stay.

Serenity Butlers can provide private in-room dining

Serenity’s attentive butlers can do as much or as little for you as you wish, whether it’s arranging an in-room dinner or a private moonlit dinner for couples, arranging an excursion or take you to the resort’s paradise beach in a golf cart for a champagne picnic. . All you have to do is give them a ringtone on a dedicated mobile phone, and they will make your wishes come true.

My first priority was to unwind with a massage – always the best way to recover from a long-haul flight the night before, I’m sure you’ll agree.

As with most things at Serenity, you can tailor it to your liking. One of the resort’s trained therapists can come to your suite, or you can head to one of Coconut Bay’s beachfront spa cabins, where the sound of the waves and salty air will elevate your massage to new heights. new heights.

Now suitably relaxed – and another shot of rum – I walked the winding paths lined with tropical flowers to Serenity’s Greathouse Restaurant for a truly wonderful wine tasting hosted by Neige, the resort’s wine expert. Each wine was beautifully paired with the cheese, and Neige spoke to us about it with expertise and humor. It was the perfect vacation activity, and I was reliably told by a couple doing the tasting with us that it was one of the highlights of their honeymoon.

Day two brought the chance to catch some rays by Serenity’s gorgeous pool, which features six shaded cabanas (early risers get the worm on these…they get sucked in quickly) and 24 loungers in the pool – bliss! Then it was time for my kitesurfing lesson. I wasn’t sure what to expect; I’ve never been into watersports (unless you plan on frolicking in the waves trying to get an Instagram pic – and yes I did a bit during the trip too. There were hammocks sea, that would have been rude not to!)

Sea hammocks – heavenly!

However, after a crash course from the local Coconut Bay kitesurfing guru, I felt like I could conquer anything. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon in the waves of the Atlantic, and one of the activities on the mile-long paradise beach of Coconut Bay (others include a romantic horseback ride on the sand or a quiet afternoon spent in a private beach hut on stilts). In fact, Serenity guests get free access to all areas of the entire Coconut Bay resort, including its expansive pool complex with a lazy river and swim-up bar.

On top of all that, Coconut Bay is a wedding venue, offering not one but two options for a dream wedding. Couples can choose between the resort’s beautiful beachfront gazebo or the exclusive Eternity Beach. Determined not to offer ‘cookie cutter weddings’, Coconut Bay’s dedicated team goes to great lengths to create the perfect personalized special day.

The next stop on my trip was the Land and Sea Adventure, one of the resort’s day trips that can be arranged for you by your butler. Up early (and after a quick breakfast of French toast in the suite), we were taken to a port, where a catamaran was waiting to take us to see St. Lucia’s most famous site – The Pitons – in all their glory. Once we were done admiring the two volcanic peaks (a World Heritage Site, no less), we jumped off the boat into the crystal clear aquamarine waters to go scuba diving, taking bringing us closer to the island’s breathtaking coral. reefs.

Back on dry land, the adventure continued with a mountaintop lunch against a picture-perfect backdrop of the Pitons, before the final stop at the St Lucia Sulfur Springs mud baths, where we coated in mineral-rich detoxifying muds, before rinsing in very hot sulfur baths. All in all, a very pleasant experience (provided you hold your nose!).

After a busy day (and a soak in an aromatic bath laden with fresh petals run by Kimberley), I had certainly worked up an appetite. Luckily for me, there were endless gastronomic options on offer to tickle my taste buds.

One thing I found out pretty quickly: this is not your average all-inclusive food. From themed dining nights with a buffet of freshly prepared local specialties served in the poolside cabanas, to traditional delights at The Greathouse Restaurant, to Coconut Bay’s seven fabulous restaurants, food is certainly a highlight of the station.

Every night of the week there is something new to try, so I never got bored. At Serenity’s weekly rum and food party – a celebration of the culinary delights the Caribbean has to offer – my mouth was watering as I loaded my plate with a refreshing seafood salad, rich meats and spicy jerk sauces and pastry-level desserts.

In Coconut Bay, the Jerk Treehouse is a must-visit for lunch, serving up the Caribbean trifactor of jerk meat, spiced rice and festival (sweet fried dumplings). Unforgettable. Breakfast is equally impressive – a highlight for me was the jerk chicken and waffles. With 24-hour in-room dining available at Serenity, you can simply place your order with your butler or fill out your wish list and hang it on your door the night before.

All suites have their own privacy hatch meaning your room service order can be left as you please – which I think was the perfect discreet touch for all couples – especially honeymooners honey.

Needless to say, at the end of my stay, I was hesitant to leave. Serenity’s dedicated team of staff, effortlessly beautiful natural surroundings and meticulous attention to detail deliver a blend of lavish romance, fun and pure indulgence; the perfect recipe for a one-of-a-kind couples getaway. A jewel in the Caribbean’s crown of endless charm.
