The Mexican Caribbean receives approximately 60% of cruise passengers arriving in Mexico
According to the Federal Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur), the ports of the Mexican Caribbean welcomed 2,169,595 cruise passengers from January to July 2022, which represents almost 60% of the total arrived at the various port destinations. from the country.
The head of the agency, Miguel Torruco Marqués, indicated that from January to July 2022, 3 million 623 thousand cruise passengers arrived in the different ports of our country.
He explained that in the first seven months of the year, in Quintana Roo, Cozumel registered 645 arrivals and one million 499 thousand 387 passengers; Mahahual recorded 296 arrivals, with 670,208 cruise passengers.
Torruco Marqués reported that during the period January-July 2022, the arrival of 1,517 cruise ships was registered.
He pointed out that the ports that receive the greatest number of cruise passengers in Mexico are: Cozumel and Mahahual, in Quintana Roo; Ensenada, Baja California; Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur; Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco; and Mazatlan, Sinaloa; which accounted for 95.3% of the total number of passengers.
He pointed out that the arrival of excursionists on cruise ships in Mexico, the first seven months of 2022, represented a foreign exchange income of 271.7 million dollars, and the average expenditure was 75 dollars, exceeding 18.2% which was recorded in the same period of 2021 of 63.5 dollars.
From January to July 2022, Ensenada, Baja California recorded the arrival of 177 cruise ships, in which 347 thousand 615 passengers arrived; and in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, 124 ships arrived with a total of 254,832 passengers.
During the period January-July 2022, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco recorded the arrival of 97 cruise ships and 215,102 passengers, while in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, 78 arrivals and 190,143 cruise passengers were reported.
