The Ultimate Guide to the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner Site

Planning a cruise can be as fun as setting sail, and the best place to start your cruise planning process is on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner website.

Royal Caribbean’s cruise planner is where you can book extras like shore excursions, beverage packages, specialty restaurants and internet packages. It’s your go-to place to see what’s available on your next cruise.

If you’re new to Royal Caribbean, the cruise planner might seem a bit overwhelming at first. Knowing the ins and outs of the cruise planner can not only help you find the best add-ons for your cruise vacation, but also save you money along the way.

Here is our ultimate guide to the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner site.

How do I access the cruise planner?

To access the Cruise Planner site, go to the Royal Caribbean website and click “Login” in the upper right corner. Once logged in, you should see a list of your upcoming cruises.

Scroll to the cruise you want to plan and click “Plan My Cruise”. This will open the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner site.

If you don’t see a list of your upcoming cruises, click “Add Another Cruise” and link your booking number to your Royal Caribbean account.

What is available for booking on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner website?

Everything from catamaran excursions to sushi-making lessons can be booked on the Cruise Planner site. Let’s dive in to see what options are available.

Beverage packages

Royal Caribbean offers three Beverage Packages available for purchase on the Cruise Planner: the Deluxe Beverage Package, the Refreshment Package, and the Classic Soft Drink Package.

  • The Deluxe Beverage Package includes all alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, specialty coffees, bottled water, fresh squeezed juices, etc.
  • The Refreshment Package includes all non-alcoholic beverages.
  • The Soda Package includes unlimited soda refills with an included Coca Cola souvenir mug

If one person in a stateroom purchases a Deluxe Beverage Package, all adults in the room must also purchase the package. That being said, Royal Caribbean often makes an exception to this rule if the second adult in a room does not consume alcohol.

In this case, it is recommended that you call Royal Caribbean at 1-800-398-9819 to explain your situation. The second guest will most likely need to purchase a refreshment package instead of a deluxe beverage package.

You will also find a few other drink packages available on the cruise planner:

  • Water bottle package (12 or 24 bottles)
  • Cafe Select Coffee Card, which entitles you to 15 specialty espresso coffees
  • Classic Soda and VOOM One Device, combining a VOOM internet plan with the soda plan

Spa and fitness

If you plan to treat yourself to a day at the Vitality Spa, consider booking a treatment on the cruise planner before your cruise.

You can book anything from traditional massages, couples treatments, acupuncture, body therapies, facials, teeth whitening, salon services, and more.

Royal Caribbean’s Vitality Fitness Center is free for guests, but fitness classes incur an additional fee. You can book these lessons once on board or purchase a lesson package on the cruise planner.

Personal training and nutritional consultations are also available by reservation.

The key

The Key is Royal Caribbean’s VIP access program. It offers customers benefits such as priority boarding, VIP seating at events, private dining and special moments during onboard activities.

This add-on must be purchased prior to your cruise and is priced per person per day. Depending on the navigation, you can find The Key at a price ranging from $20 to $35 per person per day.

We have done several reviews of The Key on the Royal Caribbean blog with differing opinions. If you’re considering The Key, browse our reviews to learn more about the pros and cons of this VIP service:

If you’re browsing with kids, you’ll probably find yourself in the arcade at some point while browsing.

Royal Caribbean arcades are an additional cost and you can purchase credits on board or in advance in the cruise planner.

Three Arcade Credits packages are available:

  • $25 Arcade Credit
  • $50 Arcade Credit
  • $100 Arcade Credit

Purchasing credits through the Cruise Planner saves money compared to the onboard price. For example, $25 arcade credit can be purchased for $20, $50 credit for $40, and $100 credit for $80.

Shore Excursions

The Shore Excursions tab is where you can browse and purchase tours for your next cruise vacation.

You can filter tours by activity level, duration, and interest to find the tour that best suits your needs. While you don’t have to book a Royal Caribbean shore excursion, it’s worth browsing through what’s available to better understand the activities available at each cruise port.

To eat

The Cruise Planner Meals tab is where you can (1) purchase meal packages and (2) book individual meals at specialty restaurants.

Purchasing a Royal Caribbean dining package can provide great value for those looking to dine at multiple specialty restaurants. Three packages are offered by Royal Caribbean depending on the length of your cruise:

  1. Unlimited meal plan (unlimited lunches, snacks and dinners at specialty restaurants)
  2. 3 night meal plan (3 dinners at specialty restaurants)
  3. Chops + 1 Dining Package (1 dinner at Chops Grille and 1 dinner at a second specialty restaurant)

You can also book individual meals at specialty restaurants for lunch or dinner on the Cruise Planner. This is recommended only for those who do not purchase a meal plan.

the Internet

There are two types of internet packages available for purchase on Royal Caribbean’s Cruise Planner website:

VOOM SURF & STREAM is the fastest Internet plan that supports web browsing and video streaming on sites like YouTube, Netflix, etc. This plan usually costs around $20 per day for one device.

VOOM SURF supports web browsing but does not have the same speed as the stream package. This plan costs around $18 per day for one device.

Activities on board

If you would like to purchase a behind-the-scenes tour of your cruise ship, visit the Onboard Activities tab of the cruise planner.

This is where you can book the “All Access Ship Tour”, which takes passengers to areas reserved for the ship’s crew, such as the galley, engine control room, laundry room and deck.

Apart from the behind-the-scenes tour, you can also find activities like a sushi-making class available by reservation.

If you plan to purchase professional photos taken by Royal Caribbean photographers, a photo package will provide a better deal than buying each photo individually.

Several photo packages are available for purchase on the Cruise Planner website:

  • Photo Package: Up to 50 Prints or Digital
  • Photo Package: 10 Prints or Digital
  • Photo Package: 5 Prints or Digital
  • Private photo session

Photo package prices can vary, but expect to pay around $140 for 50 prints/digital, $110 for 10 prints/digital, and $68 for 5 prints/digital.

Gifts and equipment

If you would like to surprise your spouse or children when they first enter your cabin, visit the Gifts & Equipment tab on the cruise planner.

This section is where you can purchase cabin surprises and decorations that will be delivered to your cabin on boarding day.

Gifts include chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, birthday cake and topper, happy birthday topper, and cheese platters with wine.

There are also freebies for the kids, like a Royal Caribbean beach towel and beach toys.

How can I make reservations on the Cruise Planner?

Once you have found a cruise option you wish to purchase, click on the “Book” button. You will be prompted to select the guest, date and time for each purchase. You can then add the reservation to your cart.

Payments can be made with debit/credit card or onboard credit.

Can I link bookings together to make bookings with friends and family?

If you want to book a specialty restaurant or other cruise add-on with your friends and family who are not sailing in your cabin, be sure to link your reservations. You can link reservations with the reservation number and last name of the guest who is in a separate cabin.

Once reservations are linked, you can purchase and book cruise supplements for passengers in other cabins. This is useful when trying to book a specific meal time with guests outside of your cabin.

Should I book a complementary cruise now or wait for the price to drop?

It’s tempting to “wait” before buying cruise extras like beverage packages and shore excursions. No one wants to pay more than necessary, but waiting to book extras on the cruise planner will, more often than not, end up costing you more than booking right away.

Everything on the cruise planner can be canceled up to 48 hours before the start of your cruise. Therefore, if you purchase a shore excursion for $200 and later see the price has dropped to $150, you can cancel and rebook the excursion without penalty.

It is best to reserve add-ons as early as possible to ensure the price does not increase. The last thing you want to happen is to see a $65 per day drink package and wait for a lower price only to find that the price has gone up to $80 per day!

How do I cancel and rebook on the Cruise Planner website?

Canceling and rebooking is easy on Royal Caribbean’s Cruise Planner site.

In the upper right corner of the cruise planner, you will see your initials in a small circle. Click on this circle and scroll down to “Order History”.

On the Order History page, click “View Details” on the add-on you wish to cancel. You will then see the option to cancel the purchase and you will be refunded the amount paid.
